" … we are here,
radio-amateurs from different points of the country, with the single purpose
to render homage to a friend, and I do it in name of TuPY DX Group, with
permission of the event sponsors.
To be here today, many
of us have left domestic and professional routine. Certainly, what happens
is that we loose everyday, the gift of seeing in others, parameters of enthusiasm
toward the others that would apply to ourselves.
If we are loosing
such gifts of happiness it doesn't matter; the most important today is to
be here celebrating PY5GA – the great Olavo – and give demonstration that
it is possible to gather for a common interest, be winners as a group.
For coming years we will have PY5GA as our Daddy, although this statement
may sound démodé. Nevertheless, we shall remember that I speak in name of
the radio-amateurs that almost do not appear in our discussions lists and
even less in certificate list applications. I trust that this can change
from now on. Not in relation to Internet reflectors, but surely thanks to
improved interest by DXCC.
You
may question how can I speak about this young gentleman? What makes me eligible to pay such humble compliment
in name of TUPY the humblest DX Group? Maybe, the desire to make this lines
an expression of the brotherhood spirit that grants us this moment of glory.
Maybe you think that I am not the right person to do this kind of homage,
as I am not an assiduous member as the majority of you of the DX world,
but this openness is something wonderful in radio-amateurism.
Let's
get a look around and see if I am right.
I
have less than one hour with Olavo at Praia de Leste meeting, last year.
I was lucky to be sat at his side without knowing who exactly he was, in
virtue of my DXCC performance. But
I can affirm that there were wonderful 60 minutes. His peaceful speaking,
his serenity and the sparkling eyes made me acquainted with habits and costumes
of the region I live, São Paulo hinterland.
Nothing of snobbish and uphold talking, nothing about his shack…
solely simple and enjoyful talk. Afterwards
I collect some information on him, which gave the proportion of the great
individual he his.
The time elapsed.
Suddenly the campaign for his nomination as Card Checker started by Araucária
DX Group and its coordinator Atilano; clubs requirements, the rush, the
fight, the requests. Almost an impossible mission.
But
now, as magic, we are here at PY5GA side.
We won as radio-amateurs and as Brazilian, because no doubt, there
were some opponents. We won, because
we got to join for a common purpose. It is not for a chance that the center
of this purpose is somebody so special.
We
hope, dear Olavo, in years to come, be able to flood you with our cards
and our doubts – You, Sir, don't think will be at ease… Be aware Olavo that
we will be together facing this challenge and will give you the support
necessary. In this universe of radio waves, we can be
always together, hands in hands and treat each other as brothers, for the
hope to prevail in our hearts, for love always be the winner.
To
you Olavo, I specially devote these words, and for lacking the gift of speak,
I use thirds philosophy to homage your past struggles, present conquests
and goals for the future, with the following:
